To protect Dhofar’s natural heritage, Ooredoo partnered with Omani Bahjah Orphan Society and the Frankincense Nature Reserve at Wadi Dokha and Wadi Hakbeet (One of UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites associated with the Land of Frankincense) to plant 1,000 luban trees this Khareef, as part of their wider CSR campaign during the season.
The initiative brought together children supported by the Society as well as Ooredoo employees and their families, spreading environmental awareness and safeguarding Omani heritage.
“Frankincense is part of Dhofar’s identity and Oman’s story,” said Dr. Jihad Al Ansari, Chief Technology & Information Officer at Ooredoo. “By inviting orphan children, youth and our employees to plant these trees together, we are protecting something deeply rooted in our heritage while giving the community a direct role in shaping a greener future.”
By planting frankincense trees in the landscape where they belong, the initiative supports the restoration of Dhofar’s natural environment while helping younger generations understand the value of preserving it. It also reflects Ooredoo’s belief that sustainability works best when people can see it, join it and feel part of the impact. Also it aligns with ESG goals and Ooredoo’s CSR sustainability strategic objectives and generates positive environmental impact.
“One thousand trees will not transform Dhofar overnight. But they will grow, and so will the impact of the families and young people who helped plant them,” Al Ansari added.
The initiative builds on Ooredoo’s wider environmental action. During its 2024 Goodwill Journey, volunteers planted 1,000 tree seedlings in Ibri as part of the National Initiative to Plant 10 million Trees.
